The Ideas Place Bootcamp – Applications Now Open!

Since its launch in February The Ideas Place has delivered a series of Events, Masterclasses and Workshops to help locals turn their great ideas into reality.

To round out this program, we are holding a Pitch Perfect Event where 6 participants have a chance at winning some cash to help launch their idea. First prize will receive $10,000 in cash. The remaining 5 will receive $2,000 + a complimentary mentoring session.

To be eligible, you must apply to attend a Bootcamp on Wednesday 11 September. Applications will be assessed against a set of criteria as follows:

  • Engagement with The Ideas Place to date (10%)
  • How you describe your passion (25%)
  • Traction (15%)
  • Completeness of your Business Model Canvas (30%)
  • Your value proposition (20%)

At the conclusion of the Bootcamp, you will be required to do a 5- minute pitch to a panel of judges. We will then select 6 to go forward to the Final Pitch Perfect Event, where you will be required to deliver a 3-minute pitch.

The Ideas Place Bootcamp is a full day commitment with refreshments and lunch provided on the day.

GREAT OCEAN ROAD CENTENARY – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

As part of the Great Ocean Road Centenary Celebrations, there will be five pop-up cinemas operating from Friday 20 September – Sunday 6 October, 2019.

The 1920s-style mini cinemas (cleverly fitted out in shipping containers) will be located at Torquay, Anglesea, Lorne, Wye River and Apollo Bay.  Each cinema will screen a 10-minute story of the local area, its history and the building of the Great Ocean Road.

Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism is looking for volunteers who can man our pop-up cinemas.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who is passionate about our local history to welcome guests from Melbourne and beyond to celebrate this milestone! It’s also a chance to network with the local tourism industry.

State-wide plastic bag ban: is your business ready?

The Victorian Government will implement a state-wide ban on lightweight plastic shopping bags from November 2019. The ban will apply to all retailers including supermarkets, greengrocers, bakeries, pharmacies, clothes stores, restaurants, cafes, markets, food outlets, and many more.

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning has engaged the National Retail Association (NRA) to help retailers transition away from lightweight plastic bags. An NRA representative will visit stores in the Warrnambool area to discuss the plastic bag ban on Tuesday 13 August and Wednesday 14 August. Great South Coast Speaker Series – Tickets now on sale!

Grand Slam tennis champion, Paralympian and media personality Dylan Alcott will be in Warrnambool as part of the Great South Coast Speaker Series on October 8, with tickets now on sale.

The inaugural series will see inspirational people from athletes to entrepreneurs share insights and advice gleaned from their extraordinary lives.

Other confirmed speakers for the series include 2018 Victorian of the Year Susan Alberti AC, leading business and retail expert Martin Ginnane, food writer Richard Cornish and Brae owner/chef Dan Hunter.

Martin Ginnane will speak at the Killara Centre in Camperdown on August 6, Richard Cornish and Dan Hunter will both be at Noodledoof Brewing Co in Koroit on September 11 while Susan Alberti AC will speak at the Lighthouse Theatre in Warrnambool on November 21.

The Great South Coast Speaker Series is a partnership between the Warrnambool City, Moyne and Corangamite Shire Councils made possible with funding from Small Business Victoria.
